Tom was born and spent his early youth in Kansas where he showed horses in almost any discipline imaginable. His desire to show led him to Cleve Wells of Burleson, Texas. Tom had the benefit of working with not only Cleve but also other trainers such as Jerry Stanford and Shane Dowdy. During Tom’s time in Weatherford he evolved from client to apprentice. Tom has helped to create multiple World Champions in WP in both the AQHA and ApHA industries. Tom has also shown many World Show qualifiers and AQHA Congress Finalists.

Tom is based out of Good Reception Ranch in Erie, Colorado where he specializes in training WP Futurity horses. Tom attributes his success to his belief that you can’t be a good rider, trainer or showman unless you are a good horseman first. Tom’s training program is based on 5 basic calisthenics and a good strength-training program. Tom believes it is his job as horse trainer to “coach” a good horse into becoming a mentally prepared athlete and a willing horse show participant.

Tom is married and has a 9-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. In any spare time he can find he loves to golf & snow ski. He is a die-hard SURVIVOR fan and an Amazing Race fanatic.
